Escape to Freshwater Cove
Freshwater Cove was born in 1995 as a dedicated wilderness sports fishing safari camp. Since then a lucky few have experienced the awesome fishing in truly remote locations. Nearly all who visit leave with one comment: “Don’t tell anyone else about this magic place”.
The secret is out
Not only is the Cove a fisherman’s paradise, it is a true wilderness and cultural experience. In today’s world the Cove is precious. The following is a small sample of what awaits you when you escape to Freshwater Cove.
Wilderness Fishing
World class sports fishing abounds on the west Kimberley coast and our forays from Freshwater Cove cover a wide and diverse range of species and locations. The angler travels and fishes from quality customised vessels with the expertise of first class Kimberley guides. You can be fishing for Barramundi and Jacks in an estuary system and ten minutes away be hooking into monster Mackerel, Trevally and Tuna.
We cover all facets of sport fishing from estuary, river, sand flats, headlands, islands and coral reefs to fresh water billabongs. We cater for novices to the experienced and specialise in lure and fly fishing. The Cove has seen several fishing celebrities and all have agreed that it is awesome fishing in a stunning environment. Heli-fishing is also available on request.
Whale watching
The surrounding waters off the west Kimberley coast during the months from July to October are home to the majestic humpback whale and the immediate area around the Cove is where some of the largest congregations gather. On occasion, the False Killer Whale and Killer Whale can also be seen. The female humpbacks use the warm, tropical waters as a place to calve and lactate, fattening up their calves for the return journey to the Antarctic. This makes for some of the best whale watching in Australia and, at Freshwater Cove, you will have this experience all to yourself.
One of the thrills of the Cove is watching the whales from the comfort of the dining room or your hammock. Contact us for more information.
Nature and cultural tours
The list of attractions at Freshwater Cove is endless. Every turn of a corner revealing a new scene that is truly captivating. Visit a world where the diversity of wildlife will astound you. On offer around the Cove and the Montgomery Reef are Dingoes, Agile Wallabies, rock wallabies, Northern Quoll, several whale species, Dugongs and Salt Water Crocodiles, to name but a few.
Freshwater Cove (Wiggingarra Butt Butt) is home to the Worra Worra people, whose country is rich in traditional culture and spirituality. At the Cove, you can immerse yourself in a week of cultural awareness. We offer a rare opportunity to spend intimate time with members of the Worra people, who will take you by the heart and show you a world that few people know exists.
